Eleftheropoulos Avrotelis Collection

The Central Library’s Eleftheropoulos Collection contains 1.128 volumes of works on philosophy, sociology, and politics, including many rare editions.

Biographical information: 

Avrotelis Eleftheropoulos was born in Istanbul in 1869 and died in Athens in 1963. An acclaimed sociologist and social thinker, he was educated at the Great School of the Nation (Megali tou Genous Skholi) and studied philosophy and sociology in Leipzig and Zurich, where he later taught. Among those who attended his lectures were Lenin, Plekhanov and Trotski. He was one of the first professors of the Faculty of Legal and Economic Sciences (1929-1930), and served as Rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for one year (1937-38) before being relieved of his duties by the Metaxas regime.
